“And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.”

While most of our team is away at MAGIC, the rest of us are back at the Loft making sure things run smoothly. To         kick off our week, and yours, we thought we’d dig around for a bit of inspiration. With the heat scorching down on us, we can’t help but be reminded it’s summertime .. and we can’t help but long for the winds to play with our hair..

Until next time,

Put on your star spangled sunglasses and sequined shorts, and get ready to play peek-a-boo with the pacific coast while Gypsy Gal Lauren gives you unprecedented coverage of all of the fun that went down at Outside Lands Festival.

Day One: Highway one blues, and reds, and whites.

Mixtapes and flag print galore combined with some delectable edibles made the drive up the golden highway a perfect setting to mentally prepare ourselves for the festival. Queen Lana and Sigur Ros were on repeat, and the bubbles floating throughout the air set the tone for a dreamy drive up the coast. The highlight of the drive was, without a doubt watching the sun set the sky on fire over the Pacific Ocean.

Day Two: Lush Forests

Waking up to the ocean breeze and soft sunlight pouring through the hotel windows set the stage for a perfect day. After slipping into a pair of Gypsy Junkies Liberty Cutoffs, an American Flag Scarf, and some fabulous flag print Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s we were ready to head down to the beautiful Golden Gate Park. On the way we made a quick stop to the infamous Chinatown to do some sightseeing…Several fortune cookies later we found ourselves back in the car and on our way hear the fantastical sounds that could only be found through the genius that is Beck. Later in the evening we heard from Yacht, Of Monsters and Men, MSTRKRFT, and the fabulous Neil Young. Our dreams on day two were splattered with stars and stripes, dazzling lights, and fantastical images from the night!

Day Three: S is for Sigur Ros

We woke up that morning to Explosions in the Sky, literally. The band’s cathartic mini-symphonies rocked our world and the great vibes set the tone for the day. Big Boi and Thee Oh Sees led up to a fabulous set by Passion Pit. The highlight of the night was a mind blowing performance by Sigur Ros. The spellbinding sounds and enchanting lights had us all in a trance, and the laser beams lit up the Gypsy Junkies Digi-Floral Blazer making it a stand out piece. The feelings that come from standing in a field among thousands of people who appreciate talent like Sigur Ros are incomparable. It was a beautiful thing to witness, and I have no doubt that the experience will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Day Four: Never a goodbye

The last day of the festival a layer of fog settled over the painted ladies of San Francisco, and a cool breeze swept through the city. This made pairing the  Jane Field Jacket and the Marley Vest the perfect choice for day four. Still buzzing with excitement from the previous nights adventures, we headed down to the park to hear the talents of Regina Spektor, Santigold, Wolfgang Gartner, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, and Jack White. After a whirlwind of fantastical sets, we headed down to the Polo Field for a real treat. Mr. Stevie Wonder dazzled us for hours with his soulful ballads. It was the perfect way to end the festival off on a good note. That night we all went to sleep with visions of the weekend dancing throughout our heads. From the A+ festival fashions to the marvelous music, Outside Lands 2012 was an amazing experience. We truly fell in love with San Francisco, which is why we chose to part with a loving “See you next time”.

xx,

Lo

Meet the newest member of our Gypsy family, Ziggy! Although he’s Suzy’s lovable pooch, we now all consider him part of the family. He’s been around the loft for a week or two now, and we already can’t imagine life without him. Not only can he high-five and shake hands .. but he’s pretty much the cutest dog on the planet.

Ziggy and Suzy

High-five!

This past Thursday one of our fave e-commerce families, ThreadSence, was able to pencil us into their busy schedule and log in some QT at the Gypsy Loft. It was the perfect mix of bubbly, cookies, cupcakes, our Summer Collection and LA’s cutest bohemian style mavens that made for the absolute perfect night. This time Marcus wasn’t the only boy, but we did welcome another K-9 guest, Cooper!

Check out our pics from the photo diary. We had such a blast, can’t wait to do it again! ThreadSence, you’re officially Gypsies!!! <3

As if we don’t clock in enough time with each other at the office, we Gypsies can also be found side by side in our free time. This weekend Alex and Lo tackled the city, hitting up Melrose Trading Post (we’re suckers for a good flea market) and then lounging poolside. Check out the photo album as we take you with us through a day in the life of a Gypsy ..

Until next time, Peace. Love. Gypsy.

So, we’re totally obsessed with Instagram. Legitimately, it’s probably one of our favorite things. Such a fun way to follow our friends and see what’s going on in their lives!  Here’s a glimpse of some of our own snapshots. Follow us                       (@gypsyjunkies) for behind the scene photos, random fun moments, and anything else that catches our interest enough to take a picture of it!

Peace. Love. Gypsy.

Absolutely gorgeous, Isabel Lucas is the epitome of bohemian youth. The Australian actress has been turning heads with her incredibly effortless and unwavering sense of style for quite some time now. And rightfully so. She wears her clothes like a second skin, layering vintage pieces and long flowing silhouettes in a way that is completely natural and all her own.

If you haven’t yet, you should definitely get your hands on Gypset Style, by Julia Chaplin. Completely coffee-table worthy, the pages of this book allow you to enter into the world of the Gypset – and the images (some posted below) leave you lusting for more.

But first, what exactly is a Gypset?

Chaplin explains, “Gypset (Gypsy + jet set) is about an emerging group of artists, musicians, fashion designers, surfers, and bon vivants– who lead semi-nomadic, unconventional lives… They are people I’ve met–or been inspired by– in my travels who have perfected a high-low approach to life that fuses the freelance and nomadic wile of a gypsy with the sophistication and global references of the jet set. It’s an alternative way of traveling and living that’s based more on creativity then money.”

Chaplin writes, “a surfer who is also a fashion designer, an artist who traded the go-go New York City art world for Bali’s low-key tropical shores, a jewelry designer who would rather work out of a town in Mexico than in Paris’ über-chic Saint-Germain-des-Prés.”

Money, the right clothes and even location, Chaplin explains, doesn’t make you a Gypsetter. “Buying a luxury condo on an exclusive beach or checking into a five-star hotel is not in itself glamorous,” she writes. “Glamour – as confirmed when I stayed with Nathalie and Sophie Laurence Mignot, a pair of French sisters in Sayulita, Mexico - is about turning a rooftop into a supercool compound by painting the walls fuchsia, and firing up some votive candles for light.”

It’s no coincidence, Chaplin points out, that “those who are defining the Gypset aesthetic are artists, fashion designers, photographers, musicians, and surfers whose work is based on their lifestyle and whose lifestyle is based on their work.” Gypsetters, she says, “are freethinkers who have made the choice to set themselves up far away – even if it’s only for part of the year – proposing an alternative solution to life.”
